The Yamanashi prefecture in the center of Japan seems to be entirely dedicated to producing quality fruit and vegetables. The region enjoys record sunlight reaching 2400 hours per year (2462 to be fair) or 387 hours more than the national average. This mountainous area can additionally boast of having many springs of extremely pure mineral water, among the best in the country… The altitude of 1000 metres, causing a significant difference between the day and night-time temperatures, helps farmers achieve ideal conditions to grow outstanding fruit and vegetables.
The Japanese are fully aware of the benefits of a healthy and balanced diet on the body. The inhabitants of the village of Matsukawa in neighbouring Nagano prefecture, have an even greater longevity, as they eat healthily. The majority of farmers are registered as organic farmers, which certainly provides an additional advantage to the benefits experienced by consumers.
In order to highlight these gems from the work of passionate farmers, Hoshino Resorts RISONARE Yatsugatake creates a market each summer to showcase the richness of local produce, but also to initiate meetings and exchanges between farmers and consumers sensitive to the quality of their diet. The theme chosen this year is “The Power of Vegetables”; a subject which speaks for itself. Therefore, throughout the entire summer, visitors will be able to discover new, beautiful and colourful vegetables on the market stalls.
The highlight of this farmers’ market is to offer food-lovers the opportunity to taste these vegetable treasures by tasting original recipes devised by the farmers themselves. For example, sandwiches will be sold in a Food Truck in conjunction with a glass of wine chosen by the sommelier at Hoshino Resorts RISONARE Yatsugatake.
You can even choose your vegetables and make up your own pizza at a stand set up in the fresh air on the edge of the forest! So are you ready to adopt the “Veggie Attitude”?
