Rejuvenate at Ito’s new-look ryokan

27 Feb 2019 in Just Relax

Immerse yourself in the hot spring experience of coastal Ito.

Ask a Japanese person about Ito and they’ll more than likely mention its hot springs. This coastal city on the Izu Peninsula, less than 2 hours by train from Tokyo, is famed nationwide for its warm waters – and where better to test them than in the newly- revamped Hoshino Resorts KAI Ito?

Set around a large garden filled with seasonal flowers, Hoshino Resorts KAI Ito offers modern comfort and style with all the classic charm of a traditional Japanese ryokan. The recent renovations have one main aim: to help guests get more from the local hot springs.

Ito is blessed with one of Japan’s most abundant supplies of hot spring water, with Hoshino Resorts KAI Ito enjoying a debit of 600 litres per minute! Water heated to 40C pours freely into the newly-renovated indoor public baths, cascades down a rockface into the revamped outdoor baths, and also sources a foot bath and showers in the guest rooms.

The rooms themselves have all been reimagined as themed Signature Rooms, inspired by the seasonal flowers of Ito. You can choose from 4 different room types, including Japanese-style rooms with their own garden and private outdoor bath.

Other rooms feature “Tsurushi Kazari” traditional decorations and an unusual “earth-floored” living room.

For the full ryokan experience, end your day at the restaurant, where you expect the likes of freshly-caught Ise lobster, as well as splendid alfonsino steamed in Guricha green tea.
