It’s mushroom season in the mountains. Eat, drink and beautify your skin with their enriching nutrients!
Through September and October, you can discover the many benefits of mushrooms at HOSHINOYA Karuizawa.
At this time of the year, the surrounding mountainside is strewn with mushrooms – and you’ll experience some of Japan’s most renowned varieties.
On arrival, you’ll be served a cup of shiitake or yamabushi mushroom tea, accompanied by a mushroom-inspired sweet. This is just the beginning of your gastronomic mushroom stay!
For breakfast, take your pick of mushrooms from a tray on your private terrace.
Choose from shiitake, maitake, tamogitake and more, and then add them to a broth for a hearty morning soup. In the evening, a beef and mushroom hotpot awaits you, washed down with a special Enoki mushroom shochu.
Opposite your hotel, the French restaurant Bleston Court Yukawatan serves dishes with wild mushrooms hand-picked from the local forest.
But gastronomy is not the only mushroom experience of your stay!
One of the highlights is an 80-minute spa session where you’ll be pampered with cosmetics packed with mushroom goodness (Hourokutake mycelium extract). A full-body oil treatment is followed up by a facial to moisturize and heal your skin.
The fungal finale of your stay will be a walk hunting for wild mushrooms in the resort’s grounds and at a nearby bird sanctuary.
