Beat the summer heat by sipping on shaved ice kakigōri! Discover a new flavor as you travel Japan at each KAI resort!

What better way to cool down in Japan than with a kakigōri? This traditional shaved ice treat is enjoying a resurgence, with specialist stores popping up all over the country.

From now until the end of August, many KAI resorts are serving up their own regional kakigōri. Try a new taste in every location:

Japanese ice cream

Ginger: at Hoshino Resorts KAI Izumo, you can sip on kakigōri spiced with sweet local ginger while enjoying views of the Tamayugawa river!

Gren tea ice cream

Guricha: the Izu region’s guricha tea is famed for its lack of bitterness, offering a cool taste for the shaved ice treat at Hoshino Resorts KAI Ito.

Kakigōri sake flavor

Sake: inspired by a local tradition, the kakigōri at Hoshino Resorts KAI Kaga uses a tri-coloured syrup made from local sake and garnished with candied vegetables.

Japanese ice cream

Wine: flavoured with wine made from local concord grapes, the shaved ice at Hoshino Resorts KAI Matsumoto is a naturally sweet treat.

Plum: the pulp-filled plum nectar at Hoshino Resorts KAI Atami works wonders in shaved ice. Enjoy it on the Seikai Terrace after an open-air hot bath.

Ice dessert flavored
