And the area around HOSHINOYA Karuizawa is home to some of Japan’s most inspiring golf courses.
Karuizawa 72 Golf Club
With 6 courses and 108 holes, Karuizawa 72 has something for everyone. A pro women’s tournament is held here every year – and the tough North course is perfect for testing your inner-pro.
You can even hire a caddy. Occasional golfers will enjoy the wide fairways of the West courses.
Daiasama Golf Club
Boasting spectacular views of Mount Asama and the Yatsugatake mountains, Daiasama is members only most weekends, but well worth a visit for the superb highland course and excellent clubhouse restaurant.
Expect plenty of grain on the greens.
Zuien-karuizawa Nine Hundred Club
A hilly course with straight fairways, Zuien-karuizawa is tailormade for aggressive golfers.
Hole 18 is famed for its length and high tee ground, demanding a big drive with minimum swerve. The imposing clubhouse was created by fashion designer Jun Ashida.
Mitsui-no-mori Karuizawa Country Club
A public course in the shadow of Mount Asama. While the outer course uses the natural terrain, the inner course has been fashioned to test technique.
The clubhouse resembles a stately Colorado villa and serves up excellent dishes, including Jingisukan.
