This month, we’re giving away 3 beautiful accessories, hand-crafted in the Japanese Alps using traditional washi paper. Fill in the form at the bottom of the article!
Washi is an age-old form of Japanese paper, known for its exceptional strength and resistance – which allows it to be shaped into a range of objects such as shoji screens, lampshades, and bowls.
Deep in the Japanese Alps, the Matsuzaki Washi company is a four-person workshop crafting washi objects in traditional fashion.
The company has existed for over 100 years, benefiting from the exceptional quality of the local mountain water – a vital ingredient in washi.
Under the leadership of Shuichi Koshihara, they continue to use traditional equipment such as wooden sieve frames and hand-tightened presses.
Their unique selling point?
The washi is decorated with natural leaves and flowers, making for an unusual range of elegant accessories.
If you stay at Hoshino Resorts KAI Alps, Matsuzaki Washi is just down the road. Visitors are welcome – and you can even try your hand at making your own washi!
This month, we’re giving away 3 accessories hand-crafted by Matsuzaki Washi.
